How to Use the Executive Dashboard in EDGEBIC

The exec dashboard tab in EDGEBIC by User Solutions gives a 90-day operational view: hero tiles for throughput, on-time-in-full, margin, and backlog, a multi-plant rollup by department, and top and bottom product lists, each figure carrying a chip that states how far to trust it. It is the tab you put in front of a general manager or director when the question is direction, not detail.

Before You Start

  • Orders exist and are scheduled. Throughput, on-time-in-full, and backlog all read from your orders and their schedules.
  • Work centers have their department assigned if you want the multi-plant rollup to attribute jobs correctly.
  • You accept the dashboard does not auto-refresh. Click Refresh now before a review to pull current numbers.

Step 1: Open the Exec Tab

Open the Dashboard section from the main navigation and click the Exec tab. It loads in the light office theme. Because there is no auto-refresh timer, click Refresh now before you present, and watch the last-updated time stamp move.

Step 2: Read the Four Hero Tiles

The hero row is the headline:

  • Throughput, the quantity completed over the last seven days.
  • On-time-in-full, the share of completed orders that landed by their due date over the window.
  • Margin, which currently shows a dash because revenue is not captured.
  • Backlog, the count and quantity of orders not yet complete.

Read each tile's chip alongside its value. Backlog carries a Live chip because it is a persisted fact. On-time-in-full carries a Plan chip because it uses projected end dates until actuals fully replace them. Margin carries an Offline chip and a dash rather than a fabricated figure.

Step 3: Read the Multi-Plant Rollup

The rollup shows one row per department, attributing each job to the single department whose stations consumed the most of its scheduled hours, then aggregating quantity and on-time counts into a throughput-per-week figure. It is the fastest read on which plant or area is carrying the load and which is falling behind.

Step 4: Read Top and Bottom Products

Two product lists close the tab. Top products rank by volume over the window. Bottom products rank by on-time performance, worst first, with the highest-volume laggards floating to the top. The bottom list is your shortlist for a product-level investigation.

What the Chips Are Telling You

The data-quality chip is the honesty layer. Live is a persisted fact. Plan is a scheduler projection that will firm up as actuals arrive. Estimate is a heuristic. Offline means the figure cannot be computed yet, which is why margin shows a dash. Read the chip before you quote a number in a board pack: a Plan figure is directionally sound but not yet a hard fact, and the info icon on each tile explains exactly how it is calculated, which is the routine in how to check where a dashboard number comes from.

How to Check It Worked

The tab is read-only, so nothing is saved. Confirm it worked by checking that backlog matches the count of open orders you expect and that the last-updated stamp reflects your refresh. If a department's throughput looks too low, confirm all its work centers have a department assigned before concluding the output is genuinely down.

Common Mistakes

  • Reading a Plan figure as a hard fact. On-time-in-full is projection-based until actuals are fully logged. Note the chip when you quote it.
  • Treating the margin dash as a bug. It is an honest Offline state because revenue is not captured. The tile refuses to invent a number.
  • Forgetting to refresh. There is no auto-refresh. A stale tab shows the last time it was activated, not now.
  • Trusting the rollup with unmapped stations. A department missing on some work centers drops those jobs from its total. Confirm the assignments before reading a low number as real.

Expert Q&A: Deep Dive

Q: OTIF on the exec tab reads 66 percent and the tile is colored red. How much should I trust that number?

A: Trust it as a directional read, and check its chip before you treat it as final. On-time-in-full on the exec tab carries a Plan chip, which means it is computed against the scheduler's projected end dates rather than fully-captured actual completions. That is accurate enough to tell you two of three orders are landing late over the 90-day window, which is a real problem worth acting on, but the exact percentage will firm up as kiosk actuals replace the projection. So act on the signal, red is red, but when you quote the precise figure in a board pack, note that it is plan-based until actuals are fully logged. The fix for the underlying lateness is the same either way.

Q: One department's throughput looks suspiciously low on the multi-plant rollup. What should I check?

A: Check whether all of that department's work centers actually have a department assigned, because the rollup maps each job to the single department whose stations consumed the most of its scheduled hours. If some stations have no department set, the jobs that ran mostly on them are silently left out of the rollup, and the department's throughput reads lower than reality. So a low number can mean genuinely low output or it can mean a mapping gap. Confirm the department assignment on the work centers involved first, then re-read the rollup. If the assignments are complete and the number is still low, the throughput is real and worth investigating on its own terms.
