How to Check Where a Dashboard Number Comes From in EDGEBIC
Every KPI tile on the EDGEBIC by User Solutions dashboard tells you both its formula and how much to trust it: an info icon carries the definition and the calculation, and a small data-quality chip states where the number came from. You never have to guess what a tile means, and you should never have to ask a colleague.

Before You Start
- Jobs are scheduled, because most tiles derive from the plan.
- Actuals and kiosk punches are flowing where you want a Live number rather than a projection.
- You know which decision the number is for. A tile is enough for a standup and never enough for a commitment.
Step 1: Hover the Info Icon
Open Dashboard, stay on the CAPACITY tab, and hover the small info icon on any hero tile. The tooltip is written in three parts: What: the number is, Why: it matters, and How: it is computed.
The hero tiles and their calculations:

Two of those look interchangeable and are not. Production Efficiency and Capacity Utilization both divide hours by hours, and plants routinely argue for a month because one person means one and one means the other.
Step 2: Read the Chip Before You Read the Number
Each cockpit number carries a small chip stating its provenance:

The rule that keeps everyone honest: do not quote a Plan number as fact in a customer conversation. It is a projection of a plan that has not happened yet, and it will improve as actual hours arrive. See what a data quality chip is for the concept in full.
Step 3: Refresh Before You Trust the Snapshot
The cockpit tabs load when you switch to them and otherwise hold their snapshot. Click Refresh now at the start of a meeting. The CAPACITY tab additionally has its own refresh control, and an auto-refresh interval in seconds on the Display tab of the settings dialog, where zero disables it: see how to customize the dashboard KPI tiles.
A number nobody refreshed is not a wrong number. It is yesterday's right number, which is worse, because it looks current.
Step 4: Confirm It in the Report Layer
When the number is going into a decision, move down a level. Reports query the database fresh on open, and every report carries a Column Details… button that documents each of its columns with the definition, the formula, the unit, worked example values, and links to related columns. Step 5: Write the Definition Down Once
The tooltips and the glossary are per number. What they cannot do is settle which number your plant agreed to manage by. Pick the tiles that belong on your board, note the formula each one uses, and put that on the wall next to the screen. Then a green tile means the same thing to the supervisor, the planner and the general manager.
A Worked Example
A supervisor says the plant is at 74% and there is room for a rush order. The planner spends four minutes before answering.
Hovering the tile confirms what 74% means: used hours divided by total available hours. The chip says Plan, so it is the scheduler's projection rather than a record of what happened. That is fine for the question, because the rush order is about the future.
Then the report. Work Center Utilization over the same window shows plant utilization near the tile figure, but the Per Work Center tab shows two stations above 100% while six sit below 40%. The plant average was true and useless: the rush order routes through one of the two saturated stations.
The answer becomes specific instead of general. Yes to the order, if one existing job moves off that station or the day gets four agreed overtime hours. The tile started the conversation. The report decided it.
What Changes When You Check
Nothing. Hovering a tile, reading a chip, refreshing a tab and opening a report are all read-only. Your tile selection, thresholds, colors and refresh interval belong to your view alone and change nobody else's dashboard and no production data.
How to Check You Read It Right
Take one tile and reproduce it from the report layer. Capacity Utilization is the easiest test: read the tile, then run the utilization report over the same window and compare its plant utilization figure. They should agree in shape. If they disagree wildly, the windows differ, or the board was not refreshed, or one of the two views is the lighter approximate one.
Common Mistakes
- Quoting a Plan number as a fact. It is a projection with a chip that says so.
- Reading a dash as zero. Offline means not captured yet.
- Using efficiency and utilization interchangeably. Different formulas, different questions.
- Skipping the refresh. The cockpit waits for you to ask.
- Treating the dashboard as the authority on capacity. The Work Center Utilization report holds that role, because it computes available hours from the real shift calendars.

Expert Q&A: Deep Dive
Q: Someone quoted an on-time figure from the dashboard in a customer call and it did not match the report. How do I stop that happening again?
A: Establish one rule: the dashboard opens the question and the report answers it. Same database, different lenses. Dashboards are the glanceable overview, while the reports carry the authoritative formulas and the Column Details glossary that documents every column with its definition, formula, unit and worked example values. In practice that means a number on a tile is fine for a morning meeting and never fine for a commitment. For the on-time question specifically, the On-Time Delivery report judges finished jobs by their actual end and unfinished jobs by their scheduled end, and it groups by customer, which is the view a customer conversation actually needs.
Q: Two of us are looking at the same plant and reading different capacity numbers. Where does that come from?
A: Three causes cover nearly all of it. First, the windows differ: a dashboard tile is showing the cockpit's period while a report averages the range you set in its date range dialog. Second, one of you is reading the lighter performance report, whose available hours are an approximation that ignores shift calendars, while the other is reading the Work Center Utilization report, which computes them from the real calendars. Utilization wins that disagreement every time. Third, one board has not been refreshed, because the cockpit does not refresh in the background. Fix the window, name the report, click Refresh now, and the two of you will agree.
