To schedule a job at a specific utilization in EDGEBIC, open the manufacturing order dialog, set Schedule at Utilization to a value between 1 and 100, and reschedule. EDGEBIC by User Solutions then lets that one job consume only that share of each shift's hours, leaving the rest of the machine free for other work. The default is 100, meaning the job may use all available hours. Lower it to make a job share a busy resource.

Set the Job's Utilization

  1. On the Drive Schedule tab, select the order and open its dialog with Edit, or set the value when you first add the order.
  2. Find Schedule at Utilization %. It accepts an integer from 1 to 100, and it defaults to 100.
  3. Enter the percentage you want this job to consume of each shift's plannable hours, for example 60.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Tick the job and press Schedule + Re-Schedule so the new percentage takes effect.

The effective hours this job may use per shift are the shift's available hours multiplied by the utilization fraction. At 60 percent on an 8-hour shift, the job draws 4.8 hours per day and the rest stays open.

What Changes When You Run

The lever exists to share a scarce resource deliberately. It is the right tool when one large job would otherwise sit on a machine all week and starve smaller, more urgent work.

How to Check It Worked

  1. Open the throttled job in Job View and confirm the operation on the throttled work center now spans more days than its raw hours would suggest.
  2. Confirm another job scheduled on the same machine still received a full share of capacity in the freed hours.
  3. Read the throttled job's Days Late. If the later finish pushes it past its due date, decide whether the sharing is worth the slip or whether a smaller throttle is better.
  4. Re-open the order dialog and confirm Schedule at Utilization % shows the value you entered, not the default 100.

A Worked Throttle

A single large job needs 20 hours of milling and, left at the default 100 percent, it consumes the whole 8-hour day shift on the mill for two and a half straight days. Meanwhile three small rush orders sit behind it because the mill is booked solid.

Edit the large job and set Schedule at Utilization to 60, then reschedule. The job now draws only 4.8 hours of mill time per day, so its 20 hours spread across roughly four and a bit days instead of two and a half. The other 3.2 hours each day stay open, and the three rush orders drop straight into those freed windows without you having to move the big job by hand.

The trade is visible and deliberate: the large job's finish moves out by a day or so, which you confirm on its Days Late column, while three urgent jobs that were starved now schedule on time. If the large job's slip is unacceptable, raise the percentage to 75 and rerun to strike a different balance. The lever is continuous, so you tune it to the exact sharing the machine needs rather than choosing between all or nothing.

Common Mistakes and Gotchas

  • Expecting the edit to reschedule itself. Editing an order never moves any plan. Save, tick the job, and run Schedule + Re-Schedule.
  • Confusing per-job utilization with the machine's capacity. This setting throttles one job only. To change what the machine itself offers, adjust instance count or use a per-day capacity override.
  • Throttling too hard. A very low percentage stretches a job across many days and can blow its due date. Start with a modest reduction and check Days Late.
  • Leaving it at 100 by accident. The default is 100, so a job you meant to throttle will use full capacity unless you actually change the number and save.

A: Yes. Edit the big job and set Schedule at Utilization to something like 60, then reschedule. The job now consumes only 60 percent of each shift on that machine, spreading over more days, and the remaining 40 percent each day is free for the rush orders to slot into. The big job's finish moves out, so check its Days Late is still acceptable before you commit.

Q: I set Schedule at Utilization but nothing changed on the Gantt. Why?

A: Editing a manufacturing order never reschedules on its own. The new percentage only takes effect on the next run. Save the change, tick the job, and press Schedule + Re-Schedule. If the bar still looks the same, confirm you edited the right order and that the value saved as an integer between 1 and 100 rather than being left at the default 100.
