To return a work center to the global shift calendar in EDGEBIC by User Solutions, open the work center for editing, select the Associated Shifts tab, re-tick Use Global Shifts, and save. The machine follows every plant-wide shift again from the next scheduling run. The grid's Shift Calendar column flips from the amber Custom badge to the green Global badge, which is your confirmation.

This is the maintenance half of custom calendars. Giving one machine its own hours is a deliberate, useful exception: a mill staffed only on nights, a finishing cell that works Monday through Thursday, a shared external resource available on fixed days. The cost of that exception is that the machine stops receiving plant-wide shift edits. When the exception ends, rejoining the plant calendar is the move that stops the machine drifting again.

Before You Start

  • Confirm the exception is genuinely over. If the machine still runs a different pattern, editing its own shift cards is the right answer, not rejoining.
  • Know what the plant shifts actually say. After rejoining, the machine works every global shift. If the plant runs two shifts and the machine was on a custom night-only calendar, its capacity is about to roughly double.
  • Expect to reschedule. Nothing on the plan moves until you run Drive Schedule.

Step 1: Find the Machines on a Custom Calendar

Open the Workcenter tab. On the Work Center Management grid, read the Shift Calendar column:

Every amber row is a machine that missed your last plant shift change. That column is the fastest audit in the application, and it is worth reading after any global calendar edit.

Step 2: Open the Work Center and Go to Associated Shifts

Click the pencil Edit button on the machine's row. The Work Center Configuration dialog opens. Select the Associated Shifts tab, which holds the Shift Management section and the machine's own shift cards.

Step 3: Re-Tick Use Global Shifts

Tick Use Global Shifts. The per-work-center shift management controls, Add Existing Shift, Create New Shift, and Remove Selected Shift, are disabled again, because the global calendar now rules.

That disabling is the visual cue that the change took: while the box is ticked, the machine's own list is not what the scheduler reads.

Step 4: Save and Confirm the Badge

Click Save. Back on the grid, the machine's Shift Calendar column should now show the green Global badge. If it still reads Custom, the save did not take the checkbox; reopen and check.

Step 5: Reschedule and Look at the Load

Run Drive Schedule, then open the Resource Calendar and read the machine's Total Capacity row across a normal week.

Do this deliberately rather than assuming. Rejoining the plant calendar usually gives a machine more hours than its custom calendar did, and more hours means the scheduler will pull work onto it. That is generally the outcome you wanted, but it can also move dates on jobs you were not thinking about.

Note the last two rows. Rejoining the global calendar changes which shifts the machine works. It does not clear day-level exceptions you set with the per-day capacity dialog, and it has nothing to do with plant closures. How to Check It Worked

  1. The grid shows the green Global badge for the machine.
  2. Open the machine again: the shift management buttons on Associated Shifts are disabled.
  3. After a scheduling run, the Resource Calendar shows the machine offering hours in every window the plant shifts cover, not just its former custom window.
  4. Make a small test edit to a global shift and confirm the machine's capacity follows it on the next run. Then undo the test edit.

A Short Worked Sequence

A mill was moved to nights last year on a custom calendar. The night crew has been reassigned and the mill goes back on days.

  1. Read the grid. The mill shows the amber Custom badge. Every plant shift change made since it moved has missed it.
  2. Edit it, open Associated Shifts, re-tick Use Global Shifts. The shift management buttons gray out. Save.
  3. Check the badge. Green Global.
  4. Check the arithmetic before rescheduling. On its custom night-only calendar the mill offered 8 hours a day. The plant runs a day shift and a night shift, so on the global calendar it offers 16. Its capacity has doubled.
  5. Run Drive Schedule and compare. Work that had been queuing behind the other mill moves across, and several jobs finish earlier than the previous plan promised.

Step 4 is the one people skip. Rejoining is usually a capacity increase, and a capacity increase moves dates you were not thinking about.

Common Mistakes

  • Editing the custom shift cards to look like the plant shifts instead of rejoining. It produces the same hours today and the same drift tomorrow. The machine is still on its own list and will miss the next plant change.
  • Rejoining when the exception is still real. If the machine genuinely runs a different pattern, keep the custom calendar and update it. Rejoining just to tidy the badge makes the plan wrong.
  • Not checking the resulting capacity. More hours is the usual result, and it moves dates.
  • Forgetting to reschedule. The calendar changed. The plan did not.
  • Assuming rejoining fixes a zero-capacity machine. It fixes it only if the plant shifts exist and cover working days. A machine reading zero hours may have a different cause entirely.
