- How to Override Capacity for One Day in EDGEBIC
To override capacity for one day in EDGEBIC, open the per-day capacity dialog on the work center, select the shift, find the date, and type the new hours in the Capacity column. The override saves as you type, takes priority over the shift formula, and applies only to that one date and shift. Reset the row to undo it.
This is the tool for one-off realities the calendar should not absorb: approved Saturday overtime, a half-day preventive maintenance window, a temporarily de-rated machine. It carries a reason and an audit flag, which is exactly why it beats editing a shift for anything temporary. Before You Start
- You know the date and the shift, and the exact hours you want that day to have.
- You know the work center's instance count. The override is the day total, not per machine.
- You are handling a temporary exception, not a permanent pattern change. Permanent changes belong in the shift or the calendar.
- You can rerun the schedule. The override is honored at the next run, not retroactively.
Step 1: Open the Per-Day Capacity Dialog
Open the Workcenter tab. On the work center's row, click 📊 (tooltip Per-day capacity). The Per-Day Capacity dialog opens.
Alternate route: in Schedule → Resource Calendar, double-click a date cell on the Total Capacity row for the work center.
Step 2: Select the Shift
Pick the shift in Shift:. Overrides are shift-specific. If a work center runs both a day and a night shift and you want to change the total hours for the day, you override each shift separately. Get this wrong and half the day's capacity behaves as you expect while the other half follows the formula.
Step 3: Set the Date Range
Adjust From: and To: so the target date appears in the grid. The ↺ button resets the range to today minus seven through today plus seven.
Step 4: Read the Day, Then Type the New Value
The grid gives you, per day:

Compare Shift default (h) with what you want. Then type the new figure in Capacity (h). You can also drag the top edge of the day's bar in the chart, but typing is more precise.
The change saves as you edit. The Overridden column ticks and the summary card's Overridden days count rises.
Step 5: Get the Number Right
Capacity (h) is the total for the whole day across every instance. The scheduler uses it verbatim and does not multiply by the instance count.

Step 6: Add a Reason and Close
Type a Reason: Overtime approved, rush order, Half-day PM, De-rated, trainee operator. The footer reminds you the overrides are honored by the scheduler and persist for audit. Click Close, then run Drive Schedule.

How to Check It Worked
- Confirm the Overridden tick on the target row and the reason you entered.
- If the work center runs more than one shift, change Shift: and confirm the override is where it needs to be on each.
- Open the Resource Calendar and read the work center's total capacity on that date. It should match the number you typed, not the formula default.
- Run Drive Schedule. For added hours (overtime), the affected job should finish sooner; for reduced hours, downstream steps should push out by the difference.
Step 7: Undo It
When the exception is over, reopen the dialog and click Reset on the row ("Remove the override and revert to the shift default"). The day returns to the formula at the next run. Overrides persist until you do this, so a forgotten override quietly distorts the plan for as long as it sits there.
Common Mistakes
Per-machine hours instead of the day total. The headline error. Three instances at 4 hours each is 12, not 4, and the resulting plan is wrong by exactly the instance count.
Overriding one shift and expecting the whole day. A two-shift work center needs the override on both shifts to change its total daily capacity. This is a recurring entry in our shift and calendar mistakes list.
Using an override for a permanent change. If a machine now always works fewer hours, change its shift or calendar. Overriding the same day every week is a maintenance burden and hides the real pattern.
Never resetting. An override left in place after the reason has passed is invisible in normal use and shows up only as a plan that will not balance.

A: Open the per-day capacity dialog for that mill, select the Day Shift, find the Saturday row, and type 4 in the Capacity column with a reason like overtime approved, rush order. Saturday normally shows zero because weekend production is off by default, so the override is what turns those four hours on. The one thing to get right is that four is the total across all instances: if the mill has one instance you get four machine-hours, and if it has two you would enter eight to give each machine four. Run Drive Schedule afterward and the rush job's finish should pull ahead of its due date.
Q: We de-rate one press to half output on Fridays while a trainee runs it. Override or shift edit?
A: A per-day override, entered per Friday you actually run reduced. A shift edit would cut every Friday for the whole year and for every work center on that shift, which is not what you mean. The override carries a reason field and an Overridden flag, so the plan documents why that press had half its hours, and it expires when you click Reset. If the reduced output becomes permanent rather than occasional, that is a different decision: at that point you would look at the machine's real instance count or a custom calendar rather than overriding day after day.
