- How to Customize the Dashboard KPI Tiles in EDGEBI…
Dashboard Configuration in EDGEBIC by User Solutions lets you choose which KPI tiles appear, where the green and red bands sit, what colors are used, and whether the CAPACITY board refreshes on a timer. It is your view of the plant, not a site-wide policy, so tuning it costs nothing and disturbs nobody. This is how to set it up so the board answers your morning question in one look.
For the boards themselves, see how to use the planner dashboard. Every task in this library is mapped on the EDGEBIC how-to hub.
Before You Start
- Jobs are scheduled. Every load, utilization, and status figure derives from the plan.
- Work centers and shifts are configured, because capacity is shift hours times instances and a wrong calendar paints a wrong picture.
- Actuals are flowing, at least on the jobs you care about. Efficiency, adherence, and OEE all need real start and finish events.
Step 1: Land on the Right Tab
Open Dashboard from the main navigation. You land on the CAPACITY tab, which is the classic operational board and the one that carries the configuration dialog. The cockpit also has STANDUP for the morning meeting, EXEC for the 90-day view, and PLANNER for adherence and the 14-day load heatmap.
Step 2: Read the Tiles Before You Change Them
The hero tiles on CAPACITY are the ones you are about to curate:
| Tile | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Production Efficiency | Productive hours divided by available hours |
| On-Time Delivery | Completed jobs delivered by their due date, as a percentage of completions |
| Active Jobs | The count of orders in progress or scheduled |
| OEE | Availability times performance times quality |
| Capacity Utilization | Used hours divided by total available hours |
| Bottleneck | The constraint work center, carrying a focus badge |
Each tile has an information icon whose tooltip states what it shows, why it matters, and how it is computed. Read those before you decide a tile is not useful, because the definition is usually the surprise, not the number.
Note the small data-quality chip on each tile. Live means a persisted real event. Plan means a projection from the scheduler that improves as actuals flow. Estimate means a heuristic. Offline means the source data does not exist yet, shown as a dash rather than an invented number.
Step 3: Open Dashboard Configuration
Click Settings on the CAPACITY tab. The Dashboard Configuration dialog opens with three areas of work:
- KPIs. Tick the tiles that belong on your board and untick the rest. Fewer tiles read faster, and a board with three numbers everybody trusts beats a board with eight that get argued about.
- Thresholds. Set the green and red bands per tile so the colors match what your plant actually promises. A tile is green because of this setting, not because of an industry rule.
- Display. Set colors, and set the Auto-refresh interval in seconds. Zero disables the timer.
Step 4: Decide the Refresh Behavior
The cockpit does not refresh in the background. Each tab loads when you switch to it, and Refresh now reloads on demand.
That default is right for a planner's own machine, because a board that redraws while you are reading it is worse than a board that is 20 minutes old. Set an auto-refresh interval on the CAPACITY tab only when the screen is unattended, for example a monitor on the floor. Before any meeting, click Refresh now regardless of the interval, so everyone is arguing about the same snapshot.
Step 5: Save and Sanity-Check
Close the dialog and read the board as if you had never seen it. If a tile is green and you would not act on it, its threshold is too generous. If a tile is red every day, it is either a genuine constraint or a threshold set to an aspiration nobody funded. Both are worth knowing before the next standup.
What Changes When You Save
| Action | What changes | What does not change |
|---|---|---|
| Tile selection, thresholds, colors, refresh interval | Your dashboard's appearance and behavior | Any production data, and anybody else's dashboard |
| Switching tabs, or Refresh now | The snapshot you are looking at | Any data |
The dashboards are read-only except for the per-day capacity override that can be opened from them by double-clicking a work center bar or row, and even that moves no jobs until the scheduler runs again.
How to Check It Worked
Switch to another cockpit tab and back. Your tile selection and thresholds should survive the round trip. If you set an auto-refresh interval, leave the CAPACITY tab open past the interval and watch the numbers reload without a click. If they do not, the interval is still zero.
Common Mistakes
- Tuning a threshold to make a tile green. The threshold recolors, it never recalculates. A green tile with a moved goalpost is worse than a red tile with an honest one.
- Expecting the settings to apply plant-wide. They are per view. If the whole team should read the same board, agree the thresholds and have each planner set them, or drive one shared screen.
- Treating an Offline dash as zero. No configuration turns an absent source into a real number.
- Using the dashboard as the authority on capacity. For calendar-true available hours and per-station ratings, open the work center utilization report.
- Leaving auto-refresh on a machine you actively work. Numbers moving under your cursor make a decision harder, not easier.

Expert Q&A: Deep Dive
Q: Half the tiles on my board show a dash instead of a number. Should I hide them?
A: Look at the chip on the tile first. A dash with an Offline chip means the source data does not exist yet, for example revenue for margin, or an incident log for safety, and the dash is deliberate honesty rather than a fault. Hiding those tiles is reasonable on a board you show to the floor every morning, because a permanent dash trains people to ignore the whole row. Keep them if you are actively working toward capturing that data, since a visible gap is a better reminder than a hidden one. What you should never do is treat the dash as a zero, and no configuration setting will turn it into one.
Q: Our on-time delivery tile is green at 84% but the customer service team is unhappy. Is the threshold wrong?
A: Probably, and that is a five-minute fix rather than an argument. Open Settings and go to the Thresholds tab, then set the green band to the number your business actually promises, for example 95%. The tile recolors immediately and the next morning's meeting starts from the same standard everybody else is using. Two cautions. Thresholds only change the color, never the calculation, so a tile turning red does not mean anything moved. And the dashboard is the glanceable layer, so once a tile goes red take the question to the on-time delivery report, which judges finished jobs by their actual end and groups by customer.
