To boost a work center's capacity in a scenario in EDGEBIC, open the quote's Scenarios view, click Add Work Center Override in the Work Center Capacity Overrides group, pick the machine, and drag the Capacity percent slider above 100, then click Run Simulation. The boost applies inside that scenario only. Real capacity on real dates does not change.

A scenario in EDGEBIC by User Solutions is a named what-if variant of a quote's simulation. A work center capacity override is the lever for testing "what if this machine had more (or less) capacity," standing in for a second shift, approved overtime, or a de-rated machine. Because the override is confined to the scenario, you can prove the idea earns its cost before you arrange anything real.

Before You Start

  • A quote exists and has been simulated once. Scenarios are children of a quote, and the base simulation is your comparison baseline. See how to create a what-if scenario.
  • You know the constraint. Boost the machine that is actually holding the job back, usually the bottleneck.
  • You understand this is scenario only. The override changes no real capacity. See how to override capacity for one day for the real change.
  • You keep a baseline scenario. A no-override Standard scenario is what you compare the boost against.

Step 1: Open the Scenario View

On the Quote tab, select the quote and click Scenarios. The What-If Scenario Analysis view opens. Select an existing scenario or click Create New Scenario and name it after the lever, for example 2nd Shift on Mill.

Step 2: Add a Work Center Override

In the Work Center Capacity Overrides group, click Add Work Center Override. A new override row appears.

Step 3: Pick the Work Center and Set the Percent

Choose the Work Center, then drag the Capacity % slider:

The Original Capacity and Adjusted Capacity fields show the before and after so you can confirm the boost is what you intended.

Step 4: Run the Simulation

Click Run Simulation. Read the Simulation Results: Estimated Start Date, Estimated End Date, Lead Time, Total Hours, and Estimated Cost. Each run overwrites this scenario's stored results, and nothing touches the shop plan. Use Remove in the Actions column to drop an override.

How to Check It Worked

  1. Confirm the override row shows the work center and your Capacity %, and that Adjusted Capacity matches your intent.
  2. Click Run Simulation and note the new Estimated End Date.
  3. Open the Comparison Analysis tab, tick this scenario and a Standard baseline, and read the Lead Time and Cost charts. The boost should show a shorter lead time at a higher cost.
  4. Also check the Utilization comparison tab: a scenario that only wins by running a machine at 100 percent plus for weeks has no recovery room.

Common Mistakes

Boosting the wrong machine. More capacity on a non-bottleneck adds idle time without pulling the finish in. Aim the override at the constraint.

Confusing scenario boost with a real change. The override changes nothing real. Applying the scenario copies numbers onto the quote; you still have to add the real shift or per-day override before the live schedule can keep the promise.

Ignoring utilization. A boost that lands the date by loading a machine past sustainable levels is a plan with no absorption for breakdowns. Read the utilization tab, not just lead time.

Forgetting to re-simulate. The override does nothing until you click Run Simulation.
