To set the default scheduling policy in EDGEBIC, open Settings, go to the Schedule tab, and choose Forward or Backward under Default Scheduling Direction, then Save. Forward starts new jobs as early as possible; Backward places them just-in-time so the last operation ends at the due date. The choice is site-wide in EDGEBIC by User Solutions, read fresh on every scheduler run, and it is stamped on each new job at creation rather than reaching back to rewrite existing orders.

Before You Start
- You can reach the Settings tab, which is permission-controlled.
- You understand the difference between Forward (spare time after the work) and Backward (spare time deliberately in front, last step ends at the due date).
- You know that backward jobs require a due date to work back from.
The Steps
- Open the Settings tab from the main navigation.
- Select the Schedule tab.
- Under Default Scheduling Direction, choose Forward (the default) or Backward.
- Under When a Backward Job Doesn't Fit, choose Accept the forward schedule to keep the earliest-possible plan quietly, or Show a popup so I can review it to be asked when a just-in-time plan is impossible.
- Click Save. The status line confirms it.
- Run the scheduler on your next batch of new jobs; each one inherits the direction you set.
What Changes When You Save

The direction changes what the engine does with a new job. A forward job starts as early as it can and compares its end to the promise. A backward job works back from the promise itself, so the due date becomes the anchor the whole plan hangs from. That is why a backward job without a due date cannot be saved: there is nothing to work back from.
The direction is inherited by quotes as well as jobs, so a shop that switches to Backward gets just-in-time promise dates on new quote simulations from the same setting. And because the default only stamps new work, you can flip the policy without any risk to the plan that is already on the floor: today's jobs keep running exactly as scheduled, and only the orders you create afterward take the new direction. That makes this a safe setting to change mid-week as long as you tell the team, since the surprise is not in the existing plan but in how the next batch of jobs is placed.
How to Check It Worked
Create a new job after saving the change and open it. Its direction field should read the default you chose. Run the scheduler and check where the job lands: a backward job's last operation should sit at or near the due date rather than as early as possible. If a job you created before the change still schedules forward, that is correct behavior; the default only applies to jobs created after you saved it.
Common Mistakes
Expecting existing jobs to flip. The default is stamped at creation. Jobs that already exist keep their direction; change them one at a time if you need to.
Setting Backward without due dates. A backward job needs a due date as its anchor. If new backward jobs will not save, a missing due date is the usual reason.
Changing the default mid-shift without telling anyone. Direction alters what the next run produces. Change it at a quiet moment and let the team know, so the plan does not appear to shift under the floor without explanation.
Leaving the doesn't-fit action on silent when you need warnings. If a missed promise must never slip through unnoticed, choose the review popup so the run pauses and shows you the earliest-possible forward plan instead of quietly accepting it.
