How to Set a Product Yield for Scrap Inflation in EDGEBIC
To set a product yield for scrap inflation in EDGEBIC by User Solutions, open the product, go to the Inventory Planning section, and set Yield to a value between 0.01 and 1.0, then save. A yield of 0.92 means 92 percent of started units come out good, so EDGEBIC inflates replenishment suggestions by dividing the raw need by the yield and rounding up. That way the suggested quantity already covers expected scrap, and you start enough units to finish the quantity you actually need. Leave yield at 1.0, the default, for a product with no loss.
This is one product setting. For the reorder logic that produces the suggestions yield inflates, see how to set a reorder point. The full task set is on the EDGEBIC how-to hub.
Before You Start
- The product exists and is stocked, so it produces replenishment suggestions.
- Your real first-pass yield for the product, expressed as a fraction, such as 0.92 for 92 percent.
- An understanding that yield inflates suggested quantities and does not change any operation's time.
Step by Step
- Open the Products tab and edit the product.
- Scroll to the Inventory Planning section.
- Set Yield to your fraction, between 0.01 and 1.0. For 92 percent, enter 0.92.
- Click Save.
What Changes When You Save
With a yield below 1.0, EDGEBIC inflates the product's replenishment suggestions. It takes the raw quantity the plan needs, divides by the yield, and rounds up to a whole number, so the suggestion already accounts for expected scrap. For example, a raw need of 100 units at 0.92 yield becomes 109. A yield of exactly 1.0 changes nothing, which is why it is the safe default for perfect-yield products. Yield does not affect operation durations or capacity: it works on the quantity side of planning, not the time side.
Values of 0 or above 1.0 are impossible for a yield fraction, so EDGEBIC flags them with an anomaly check. Keep the value in the valid range.
How to Check It Worked
Open the inventory calendar for the product and view the suggested replenishment quantities. They should now be higher than the raw requirement by the inflation factor. Take a known raw need and confirm the suggestion equals the ceiling of that need divided by your yield. If the suggestion did not change, confirm you saved a value below 1.0 and that the product produces suggestions at all.
Common Mistakes
- Leaving yield at 1.0 and expecting inflation. Only a value below 1.0 inflates. The default 1.0 is for perfect yield.
- Entering a percentage instead of a fraction. Yield is a fraction between 0.01 and 1.0, so 92 percent is 0.92, not 92.
- Setting 0 or a value above 1. These are impossible for a yield and get flagged. Stay in the valid range.
- Expecting yield to change timing. Yield inflates quantity, not operation duration or capacity.
Next Steps

Expert Q&A: Deep Dive
Q: Our casting line ships about 79 good blades for every 100 we pour. How do I make the plan start enough?
A: Set the product's Yield to 0.79 in the Inventory Planning section and save. From then on, replenishment suggestions divide the raw need by 0.79 and round up, so a requirement for 500 good blades suggests the ceiling of 500 divided by 0.79, which is 633 units to start. The plan now reflects the real loss instead of starting exactly 500 and shipping short. If your yield improves after a process change, raise the number so the plan stops over-starting.
Q: I set a yield but the suggested quantities did not change. What is going on?
A: Yield only inflates replenishment suggestions when it is strictly below 1.0, so a value left at the default 1.0 changes nothing by design. Confirm you actually saved a value under 1.0 on the right product. Also check that the product uses a reorder method that produces suggestions at all, since yield inflates a suggestion that already exists rather than creating one. If yield is under 1.0 and a suggestion still is not inflating, verify the product is not flagged as non-inventory, which suppresses suggestions entirely.
