I Dragged an Operation and Nothing Happened: Fixing a Planner Drag in EDGEBIC

A drag on the EDGEBIC by User Solutions Planner board that appears to do nothing almost always has a specific, named cause, and the status line under the toolbar is where it is written. Read that first. Then work down this list.

Three different outcomes get described as "nothing happened," and they need different fixes: the bar snapped back, the bar moved but nothing staged, or the bar did not move at all. Sorting your symptom into one of the three is most of the diagnosis.

Before You Start

• Confirm you are on the Scheduler sub-tab of the Schedule View, with View by: set to Planner.
• Find the status line under the toolbar. It carries the explanation for almost every case below.
• Note the pending-change count on the toolbar before and after a test drag. It is your second source of truth.

Step by Step

1. Read the status line

Every refused drop names its reason there. If it says operations cannot move between jobs, you dropped on another job's lane. If it says the selected workcenter is not an active member of this group, you aimed a group-bound step at a non-member. If it says the operation has actuals logged, the work has already started. If the status line names a reason, stop here. You have your answer.

2. Check whether you dropped it where it already was

If the status line says the operation is already scheduled on this workcenter and nothing changed, that is not a failure. You dropped it on its current machine at its current time, so nothing was staged, on purpose.

3. Check the lane mode was actually applied

If the board shows only machine lanes and no job block, the View by: change was set but not applied. Go to the Configuration sub-tab, confirm View by: reads Planner on the General tab, and click Apply & Save. Then return to the Scheduler sub-tab.

4. Check whether the operation has a job lane at all

An operation that belongs to no job has no job lane and draws only once, in the machine block. You cannot drag it out of the upper block because it is not up there. Change its machine by dragging it between machine lanes in the lower block instead.

5. Check whether the operation has actuals

Started and completed work keeps its machine, because it is a record of what physically happened. Neither a drag nor a reschedule moves it. If the machine on the record really is wrong, clear the actuals on that operation first, then reassign it.

6. Check the group membership

A group-bound operation may only be assigned to an active member of its own group. If the machine you want is capable but not a member, add it in the Work Center Groups manager, as covered in how to add a machine to a pool. If the status line says the group has no other active members, a membership was probably deactivated during maintenance and never reactivated.

7. Check whether you saved

A staged change that was never committed disappears when you leave the screen. Pending changes live only in memory. If your board looks unchanged after coming back to it, the likeliest answer is that the set was staged and then lost rather than saved. See staged changes on the Planner board.

How to Check It Worked

After a successful drag the pending-change count rises by one, not two, even though the operation draws in both blocks. The bar turns Overridden and stays on its job lane while also drawing on its new machine's lane.

If the count did not move and the status line is silent, the drag genuinely staged nothing and one of steps 2 through 6 applies.

Common Mistakes

• Ignoring the status line. It carries the answer in almost every case, and it is easy to miss because it sits under the toolbar rather than in a dialog.
• Reading a refusal as a failure. A refused drop keeps your time shift. Half of what you wanted usually landed.
• Expecting a machine change to move dates. It never does on its own. Press Re-Schedule.
• Treating a floated lane list as a fault. Clicking a bar re-orders the machine block temporarily and saves nothing. See why Planner view focus is never saved.
• Leaving the screen with pending changes. Save or discard first.
