One work center is the primary, and the others mirror it exactly: same start, same end, each carrying its share of the work. That is the correct physical model, and each mirrored machine genuinely occupies its own capacity for the duration. The catch is at the job level. By default the job total adds up every step, primary and mirrored alike, so an operation run across three synchronized drill heads reports the sum of all three, 24 machine-hours, when the job it belongs to represents only 8 hours of work. Primary hours only tells the roll-up to count the primary path and leave the mirrors out of the total, so the number a planner or finance reads matches the work the job actually stands for.

Before You Start

  • You use dependent-parallel routings, where several machines mirror one operation and run in lockstep. If you do not, this setting has nothing to change.
  • You can reach the Settings tab; it is permission-controlled.

The Steps

  1. Open the Schedule policy tab. From the main navigation open Settings, then the Schedule sub-tab. This is the site-wide scheduling policy screen.
  2. Find the Job-Level Hours group. Scroll to the group labeled Job-Level Hours.
  3. Tick the option. Turn on Primary hours only (exclude parallel). Its default is off.
  4. Save. Click the Save button at the bottom. The status line confirms the save.

With Primary hours only on, the total should equal the primary path, for example 8 hours for an operation mirrored across three drill heads, rather than the summed 24. Turn the setting off and Save to see the total return to the full machine-hour tally, then turn it back on. If the total flips between the two values, the setting is working.

Common Mistakes

Expecting capacity to change too. This setting is about job totals, not work-center load. Each mirrored machine still consumes and shows its own capacity, because it genuinely runs. Only the job-level roll-up changes.

Turning it on when you have no parallel routings. With no dependent-parallel steps there is nothing to exclude, so the totals look identical. The setting matters only when several machines mirror one operation.

Reading a changed total as a changed plan. No operation moves when you flip this. If a job total drops after you tick the box, that is the roll-up correcting, not the schedule shifting.

Forgetting to Save. Policy settings are read at the next roll-up. Tick the box and click Save, or the totals will not update.
