To choose a schedule lane mode in EDGEBIC by User Solutions, set the View by dropdown on the Schedule View Configuration screen. It decides what the rows of the Schedule View Gantt represent, and there are five options: WorkCenter, ResourceGroup, Job, Planner and Operator.

Every mode reads the same scheduled operations. Nothing is recalculated, no operation moves, and no data differs between them. What changes is the axis, which is another way of saying what changes is which question the board answers in one glance.

Before You Start

  • At least one job scheduled, so there are operations to lane.
  • For ResourceGroup, your work center groups set up. See how to create a work center group.
  • For Operator, operators and crew assignments in the window you are looking at.

Step by Step

  1. Open the Schedule tab, then the Schedule View tab.
  2. Open the Configuration sub-tab, which sits beside Scheduler.
  3. Stay on the General tab and find the Detail Schedule Resources panel.
  4. Set the View by: dropdown to the mode you want.
  5. Click Apply & Save at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Return to the Scheduler sub-tab. The board rebuilds with the new lanes.

The choice is saved with the rest of your Schedule View configuration and stays put between sessions, so switching modes is a decision rather than a glance.

Choosing in Ten Seconds

WorkCenter is the right default and the right answer most of the time. It is the machine's-eye view: every lane is a resource, every bar is work booked to it. When somebody asks whether the mill is free on Thursday, this is the board. Reading it well is covered in reading the work center lanes.

ResourceGroup trades machine detail for pool clarity. If four mills are genuinely interchangeable, seeing them as one lane with one combined load answers a capacity question faster than four lanes do. Job draws each job as one consolidated bar, so twelve jobs are twelve bars on one axis and their relative spans are immediately readable. There are no machine lanes on this board at all, which is exactly why it is clean and exactly why you cannot reassign anything from it.

Planner is the one to reach for when the question spans both. It keeps the machine block intact and adds a block of job lanes above it, one lane per job, with one bar per operation rather than one bar per job. So you read the routing along the top, read every machine's load below, and drag between the two to assign work. Full tour in the Planner view explained.

Operator shifts the axis from machines to people, with an Unassigned lane for work that has no crew on it yet. Use it when the constraint you are planning around is who is available rather than what is available.

What Changes When You Apply

The board rebuilds with a new set of lanes and every operation re-draws on whichever lane its new axis puts it on. That is the whole effect on the plan, which is to say none.

Two settings-level details are worth knowing. The Detail Schedule Resources grid follows the mode: it lists the rows relevant to the axis you chose, and in Planner mode it lists job rows first and then work center rows, with its key column reading Job / WC Id. In every mode the grid gives you Show to hide a lane, Seq.No to order lanes, Value to rename a lane's caption, and Color Code to tint it.

In Planner mode specifically, Seq.No orders rows within their own block. A job can never be numbered below the machines and a machine can never be lifted above the jobs, however you number them.

How to Check It Worked

Go back to the Scheduler sub-tab and read the lane captions. On WorkCenter they are machine names; on Job they are job numbers; on Planner you should see job numbers on the upper rows and machine names below them; on Operator you should see people plus an Unassigned row.

If the board looks unchanged, the most likely cause is that Apply & Save was not clicked. The dropdown lives on the configuration screen and the change does not reach the board until it is applied.

Common Mistakes

  • Setting the dropdown and navigating away. Click Apply & Save before leaving the Configuration sub-tab.
  • Expecting the schedule to change. It cannot. Lane modes organize, they do not plan.
  • Using ResourceGroup to pick a specific machine. Members roll up behind the group's lane. Use WorkCenter or Planner when the machine identity matters.
  • Using Job mode to move one routing step. It draws whole jobs as single bars. Planner is the mode that keeps every operation as its own bar.
  • Switching modes on a shared configuration without telling anyone. The setting persists, so it is a shared decision when the configuration is shared.

Q: I set View by to Planner but the board still shows only machine lanes. What did I miss?

A: Almost certainly the Apply and Save step. The View by dropdown lives on the Configuration sub-tab and the change does not reach the board until you apply it, so a setting that looks correct on the configuration screen can leave the Scheduler sub-tab unchanged. Click Apply and Save at the bottom of the Configuration screen, then go back to the Scheduler sub-tab and the board rebuilds with the two blocks.

Q: Our team shares a Gantt configuration. If I switch lane modes, does everyone else's board change?

A: The View by choice is part of the Schedule View configuration, so it is saved and persists between sessions rather than being a per-glance toggle. If your team genuinely works from a shared configuration, treat a lane mode switch as a shared decision rather than a personal preference, and say so before you apply it. If different planners want different lanes as a routine matter, that is a good reason to review how the configuration is shared in the first place.
