- How to Add a Product to the MPS Grid in EDGEBIC
Adding a product to the MPS grid in EDGEBIC is really about making it a make-to-stock product. In EDGEBIC by User Solutions the master production schedule grid plans items that are built to stock, so a product joins the grid once its build method is make-to-stock and it is flagged as stocked. After that, opening the MPS tab and selecting the product loads its time-phased build plan. This guide covers the product configuration that makes a product eligible and how to confirm it appears.

Before You Start
- You need the product to exist.
- You need the master production schedule tab to be available in the inventory area of your installation.
- Decide the product is genuinely planned to stock, not built only against customer orders.
Step 1: Open the Product's Planning Attributes
Open the product and go to its inventory planning section. This is where the fields that govern stock planning live.
Step 2: Set Build Method to Make-to-Stock
Set Build Method to make-to-stock. This activates the make-to-stock path in the projection, which is what lets the product receive replenishment suggestions and carry master schedule entries. A make-to-order product, by contrast, gets no automatic suggestions and will not plan a build to stock.
Step 3: Flag the Product as Stocked
Tick Is Stocked. Both this flag and the make-to-stock build method are needed for full stock behavior. The projection's make-to-stock path keys on the build method, and a separate data check flags any make-to-stock product left unstocked, because that pairing almost always means somebody set one field and forgot the other. Setting both avoids that anomaly.
Step 4: Save the Product
Save. The product is now a make-to-stock, stocked item and is eligible for the grid.
Make-to-Stock Versus Make-to-Order
The build method is the fork that decides whether the grid plans for a product at all.

A make-to-order product is only ever built against a specific customer order, so its suggested build quantity is always zero and stock netting does not apply. It can still show firm demand from a confirmed sales order line, but the grid will never propose a build to stock for it. If you want the grid to plan replenishment, the product has to be make-to-stock. If an item genuinely needs both a stock buffer and customer-order builds, treat it as make-to-stock for planning and let confirmed order lines add firm demand on top.
Step 5: Open the MPS Tab and Select the Product
Go to the inventory area and select the MPS tab. Choose the product from the product dropdown. The grid loads automatically, showing the time-phased build plan: buckets down the side, and columns for forecast, firm, demand, projected on hand, available-to-promise, suggested, MPS build, status, and the frozen flag.
What Changes When You Save
The product now participates in stock planning. It receives replenishment suggestions when its projected balance dips below its trigger, it can carry committed build quantities on the grid, and consume-from-stock netting applies to it. Nothing is scheduled yet: eligibility is not a build. The grid gives you the picture and the controls; committing and firming are separate steps covered in how to firm an MPS quantity into a job.
Getting Suggestions to Appear
Eligibility puts a product on the grid; it does not guarantee the suggested column shows anything. For a suggestion to fire, three more settings have to be right on top of make-to-stock and stocked:
- A reorder method other than none. With no method, the grid has no rule to trigger on. Set reorder point or min-max.
- A non-zero trigger level. The reorder level (reorder-point mode) or minimum level (min-max mode), or the safety stock, must be above zero, or the projected balance never crosses a threshold.
- A horizon that reaches the shortfall. If every visible bucket stays above the trigger, no suggestion appears; extend the horizon until it reaches a projected dip.
Miss any one and the suggested column reads zero even though the product is correctly on the grid. Work through them in order when a suggestion you expect is missing.
How to Check It Worked
Open the MPS tab, select the product, and confirm the grid loads with real buckets rather than staying empty. If the product has demand (forecast, confirmed sales order lines, or both), the demand and firm columns should show it. If the projected balance dips and the policy settings above are in place, the suggested column should propose a quantity. An empty grid usually means the product has no demand yet, not that the configuration failed.
Common Mistakes
- Setting build method but not the stocked flag. Both are required for full make-to-stock behavior. A make-to-stock product left unstocked trips a data check and may not net from stock correctly.
- Expecting a make-to-order product to plan replenishment. It never will. Its suggested quantity stays zero by design. Make it make-to-stock if you want the grid to plan it.
- Confusing the module with the product. The MPS tab being present is an installation matter; the product being make-to-stock is a product matter. Both have to be true.
- Reading an empty grid as a failure. No demand means an empty grid. Add a forecast or confirm a sales order line and the grid fills.
Where This Fits in Onboarding a Product
Making a product eligible is the second step in bringing a new item into planning, not the whole job. The usual sequence is: create the product, set it make-to-stock and stocked (this task), then set the planning attributes that govern how it replenishes and how far ahead it plans (safety stock, reorder method and levels, lead time, and the time fences). Only then do you enter the first forecasts and confirm a sales order line or two so the grid has demand to react to. Eligibility without those follow-on settings gives you a grid that loads but never suggests anything, which is why the empty-grid outcome is so common right after this step. Treat it as the start of a checklist, not the end.

Q: We flagged a product make-to-stock but the grid still suggests nothing. What did we miss?
A: Check three product settings in order. First, is stocked must be ticked as well as build method being make-to-stock; the two together enable full stock behavior. Second, a reorder method other than none must be set, or the grid has no rule to trigger a suggestion. Third, the reorder or minimum level, or safety stock, must be above zero, or the projected balance never crosses a trigger. If all three are set and the horizon is long enough, a suggestion appears on the next refresh.
Q: Our finished good is make-to-order but we still want to plan a stock buffer for it. Is that possible?
A: The clean route is to make the product make-to-stock so it participates in replenishment and the grid, then configure its reorder and safety settings for the buffer you want. A pure make-to-order product produces no automatic suggestions by design, so it cannot carry a planned stock buffer through the grid. If the item genuinely needs both a customer-order build path and a stock buffer, treat it as make-to-stock for planning and let confirmed order lines drive firm demand on top.
