Filtering a production Gantt chart in EDGEBIC is how you turn a wall of forty jobs into the one job, or the handful, you actually need to read: the left job tree hides and shows jobs with a checkbox, the search box jumps to a number, and the date window controls which operations fall into view. The Job Tree: Check What You Want to See
Down the left side of the Schedule View sits the Jobs & Work Centers tree, a list of every job that has schedules in the current window, each with a checkbox. Checked jobs appear on the Gantt; unchecked jobs drop out of the drawing. That is the whole mechanism, and it is powerful precisely because it is simple.
On first open, every job is checked, so you see the whole plant. From there you sculpt:
- To focus on one job, clear the selection and tick just that job. The Gantt collapses to its operations across their work center lanes.
- To compare a few jobs, tick only those. Everything else disappears.
- To bring the plant back, use Select All Jobs.
Your selection is remembered while you work, so a Refresh will not silently re-check everyone and bury the job you were studying. That persistence matters: you can filter down, save a change, refresh to confirm it, and still be looking at the same job.
Search: Jump Straight to a Number
When the tree is long, scrolling for a job number is slow. Type into the Search jobs box and the tree narrows to matching numbers, so you can tick the exact job in a second. This pairs naturally with the checkbox model: search to find it, tick to show it, search again for the next one.
Searching is a display convenience, not an edit. It never changes a job's schedule, and clearing the search box returns the full tree with your ticks intact.
The Date Window: Which Operations Fall Into View
The job filter decides which jobs are candidates; the date window decides which of their operations actually land on the chart. A job can be ticked and still show only part of its routing if its later steps sit beyond the visible horizon.
You control the horizon with the timeline commands. Right-click an empty area of the Gantt for:

If a filtered job seems to be missing a step, the horizon is the usual culprit: the step is scheduled off the right edge. Extend the window and it appears. For a per-job view with its own date range, the Job View tab defaults to today minus 7 days through today plus 3 weeks and can be widened for a single job, which is often the cleanest way to see one job's full span.
Filter Together, Not in Isolation
The three filters compose, and knowing how avoids the common "where did my job go" moment:
- Ticked but off-window. The job is checked yet its bars sit outside the date range. Fix with Horizon End Later or a wider Job View window.
- On-window but unticked. The job's dates are visible but its checkbox is clear. Search for it and tick it.
- Neither ticked nor on-window. Both filters exclude it. Tick it and widen the horizon.
When a job will not show, walk those three in order and one of them explains it every time. What decides which operations appear on the Gantt covers the rest of that picture, including why a missing bar is not the same statement as an unscheduled operation. This is the same "overview first, then zoom and filter" discipline that makes any job shop schedule legible: start with the whole plant, then narrow to the decision in front of you.
A Focused Review, Start to Finish
Say three jobs ship Friday and you want to confirm their sequence is clean:
- Open Schedule View. Forty jobs are checked, and the chart is dense.
- In the job tree, clear the selection, then tick the three Friday jobs. The Gantt collapses to those three.
- If a step for one of them is missing, right-click the Gantt and choose Horizon End Later to pull it into view.
- Read the three jobs' operations across their lanes. If one overlaps a busy machine, drag it, review, and Save.
- Choose Select All Jobs to restore the full plant. Your three-job selection is remembered until you change it.
At no point did filtering alter the plan. You changed only what you were looking at, made one deliberate edit, and returned to the full picture.
Why the Filter Is Display-Only by Design
It would be easy to assume that hiding a job removes it from scheduling, and EDGEBIC deliberately does not work that way. The filter is a lens, not a knife. Unchecked jobs keep their schedules, keep their capacity, and reappear whole when you tick them again. That separation, display here and data there, is what lets you filter aggressively without fear: narrow to one job to make a surgical change, then widen back out knowing everything else is untouched.
Filtering pairs naturally with the other reading skills on the Gantt. Once you have narrowed to a job, reading planned versus actual on its bars tells you where it truly stands, and the color states tell you which operations are done, running, or still to come.
